The Government of Tamil Nadu enacted the Tamil Nadu Construction and Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1982 to regulate the working conditions of workers engaged in the unorganised sector in Tamil Nadu and to provide social security to them.
Accordingly, 18 Welfare Boards including Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board have been formed and are functioning at present. The unorganised workers in the age group of 18 to 60 years can register themselves as members of the respective Welfare Boards through the online website https;//tnuwwwb.tn.gov.in. After registration, the eligible applications received for financial assistance like education, marriage, maternity, spectacles, housing scheme, pension, natural death, accidental death and accidental death at workplace are approved and the financial assistance is disbursed directly into the bank account of the workers.
Also, in the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Independence Day speech, the Internet-based Kig (GIG) Workers Welfare Board was formed on 26 12 2023. A special help desk has been set up in the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Social Security Scheme), Tiruvallur to expedite the registration of GIK workers and Inter-State Construction Workers (ISM). The Center of Excellence is 15 10 2024;
On the three days of 22, 10, 2024, and 29, 10, 2024, 10 a.m. The registration for inter-state construction workers (ISM) and GIG workers will be held at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Labour (in-charge), Integrated Labour Department Building, District Collector Master Plan Complex, Perumbakkam Village.
The members can also contact the office on 044-27 66 5 160 for any queries related to their Aadhaar card, electronic ration card, date of birth document, school certificate, birth certificate, voter card and driving license.
