If a person misuses his power while in office and accumulates wealth (Prevention of Corruption act) Action will flow against him as per the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In 2006, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a case against Ponmudi, who was a DMK minister, for amassing assets worth Rs 1.75 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income in the mineral resources department. The Special Court Judge of Villupuram, who heard the case, acquitted Ponmudi and his wife Visalakshi from the case.
However, the Madras High Court examined the case documents of the judge of the Villupuram court and set aside the verdict. As a result, he was stripped of his MLA post. The ministerial post will also be resigned soon as the MLA has been stripped of his post. Moreover, it was reported that the flag had been removed from his car soon after he was stripped of his post.
Moreover, the jail term will be confirmed when the verdict in this regard is pronounced tomorrow. On behalf of the counsel appearing for Ponmudi in the case, Ponmudi’s wife said that she owns 110 acres of land and is doing business. Apart from this, there is no evidence that he amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during the said period, he said, adding that the investigating officers had not taken these into account. He argued on his behalf. The court concluded the arguments of all the parties and the written arguments were filed.
All this was examined by Justice M Jayachandran and the lower court quashed the order. The quantum of punishment in the case will be announced tomorrow. Besides, Justice M. Jayachandran is golden and his wife Visalakshi is also 64. Justice M Jayachandran said in his judgment that it has been proved that assets have accumulated more than 90c/o income.
Thus, without taking into account the judgement of the High Court and the lower courts, the action of the law has been initiated against those who are using their power to amass wealth, the public. They have expressed appreciation.
Moreover, when the courts protect the dignity of the law like this, it is certain that people’s faith in the court will not change.
