The Government of Tamil Nadu has taken steps to upgrade Pudukkottai Municipality to the status of a Corporation. The villagers of these 11 villages are protesting against this.

If villages are converted into corporations, can the income of the village be compared to the income of the corporation? What is the income of people living in rural areas? What is the income of the people living in the Corporation area? People can bear the tax burden only if they calculate the income of the people and calculate their livelihood and upgrade them to Town Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations.

Those who go for wage work will be made indebted by paying taxes from the land and without any income from it. They say that since Avadi was upgraded from a municipality to a corporation, they are still unable to manage by paying taxes. Who benefits here? Salary hike for officers. Next, real estate merchants make good money and the value of land will rise. Income in the field of registration will increase. Officers and businessmen will make profits. But how will the poor middle class be affected?

The 100-day work programme in the villages will be lost. House tax, water tax, sewage tax, garbage tax, all these taxes will be increased. Those who can afford it don’t care. But it is the lower classes, the wage earners and the middle class who will be affected the most. They don’t need this corporation.

Why is the government imposing an unnecessary imposition on the people? Only by imposing this can the funds of the central corporation be obtained. This means that more than Rs 500 crore is being given to a corporation. How long will people be fooled? They continue to be deceived.

So, the corporation is of no benefit to the people of 11 villages. People understand that the damage is too much. But the government is pretending to be doing some big project for the people. It is funny that the District Collector is calling the issue of people’s rights as a law and order problem. And that’s what the corporate media is pretending to be, not true. People are fighting right.

People have to approach the court and get a stay order. Also, are those panchayat areas eligible for upgradation to the Corporation? It will be subject to judicial scrutiny. Only then can they implement it. Therefore, the people have to fight for such a wrong law.
