Supreme Court to set up expert committee to resolve farmers’ protest By PTI .

The Supreme Court has said that it will form a committee to hold talks with the protesting farmers at the Haryana border to press various demands.

Several farmer unions in Punjab have been protesting for their demands, including minimum support price; They tried to march towards Delhi. On February 13, the Haryana government erected barricades at the Shambhu border near Ambala in Punjab to stop them from advancing.

At the border, farmers from Punjab are protesting with their vehicles on the national highway. The Haryana and Punjab High Courts, which heard the case, directed the Haryana government to remove the barricades. The Haryana government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta and Ujjal Bhuiyan heard the matter on Monday. The bench then said:

A multi-disciplinary expert committee will be formed within a week to hold talks with the agitating farmers. Farmers continue to protest. The committee will examine their demands and make recommendations for finding a permanent solution.

The Punjab and Haryana governments have been asked to submit their reports within three days on the issues to be discussed by the committee. It can also make recommendations on the persons to be included in the committee.

Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana governments should talk to the agitating farmer unions and try to pacify them and call off the stir. A report in this regard should also be submitted within three days,” the bench said.
