Ponmudi was convicted by the High Court. He challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court. There is no clear reference to the ruling. The judge has ordered the verdict to be suspended.

Here DMK president M K Stalin wrote a letter to the governor saying it was a verdict in his favour and he should be made an MLA and minister again. The governor’s Supreme Court ruling did not convict him.

Moreover, there is nothing clearly mentioned in the judgment that he can be sworn in as an MLA or appointed as a minister, so the Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Ponmudi was confusing.

DMK president MK Stalin has again filed a petition against the Governor. Chief Justice of India Chandra Sood has ordered an urgent hearing in the matter.
