The BJP membership drive was held at a private wedding hall in Unjapalayam, Karumathampatti.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the event and handed over membership cards to the newly joined members.
Later, speaking on stage, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “The Modi government is a government that is spending public money for the public. Thoothukudi port has been doing well with the funds of the Government of India. Earlier, the country’s tax money used to go to only one family.
Now many development schemes are being implemented with the taxpayer money of the country. While leaving after the function, he went to the house of the public near the marriage hall and sat on the verandah of the house and handed over the membership card for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
While leaving, Arun Chandran, a graduate, asked Nirmala Sitharaman why she continued to import a spare part of a mobile phone called a semiconductor from abroad. An angry Nirmala Sitharaman told the youth that she was ready to go to Delhi and discuss the matter directly after reading the notes issued by the government.
Again, the young man continued to ask several questions to Nirmala Sitharaman. This angered Nirmala Sitharaman, who warned journalists not to be videographed.
Later, the BJP warned him not to ask such questions to Arun Chandran. Following this, the police took the youth to the police station for questioning. During the interrogation, the youth was released after an hour after being questioned by various intelligence agencies of the police. The incident created a stir in the area for a while.
