An asteroid named 2024 RN 16 will make its closest approach to Earth on September 14, 2024. The 110-foot-wide spacecraft will travel at a speed of 104.761 kilometers per hour and will come at a distance of 1.6 million kilometers from Earth.
Moreover, these small planets have orbits that revolve around the Sun crossing the Earth’s path. Thus, closer approaches are possible. They are named after the group’s first discovered asteroid, 1862 Apollo. NASA tracks the Apollo asteroids capable of intersecting with the Earth’s orbit.ISRO’s newly added planetary defense platform is tasked with protecting the Earth from extraterrestrial threats.
