Tiruvarur District: A village in Tiruvarur district has left the family out of the village due to land dispute. The woman who filed a petition before the District Collector. The Collector immediately gave the order.

Mariammal, 38, daughter of Rani of Ovalur Vellakulathu Street in Thiruthuraipoondi taluk of Tiruvarur district, had a love marriage with Sudhakar 13 years ago and has a son and a daughter. For the past few years, Mariammal, her husband and children’s mother Rani have been living in a shed on a government poramboke land.

There is a property dispute between Rani’s son and Mariammal. It is said that the village panchayat spoke only to Mariammal’s brother in a one-sided manner. Village panchayat members Panneerselvam, Selladurai, Gowthaman, Manmatharaj and Vethaiyan allegedly evicted Rani and Mariammal’s family six months ago.

Also, no one should talk to this family. They have been asked not to take drinking water, not to attend festivals, weddings and funerals. They also said that no one should talk to Mariammal’s children even when they are in school.

Panchayats that cannot give patta: In this situation, Mariammal asked for a patta for the land where she was living in a shed in the government poramboke land and could build a house under the housing scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the 28th of this month, a woman died in the village and Mariammal had gone to attend the funeral when the village panchayat quarrelled that she had been kept away from the village and that she should not come. Mariammal has lodged a complaint with the police and since the police have not taken any action so far, Mariammal came to the Collector’s office today and submitted a petition to the District Collector demanding action against these five villagers.
