After more than a decade of investigation, the Delhi Police has registered a fresh case against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case.

The court said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as the main accused in the case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a charge sheet against them in April last year in a special court dealing with cases against MLAs and MPs under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The special court has deferred the verdict in the case indefinitely. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has registered a fresh case in the matter on the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and four others have been named as accused in the case.

According to the FIR, the six accused were involved in a criminal conspiracy to fraudulently acquire Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the parent company of the National Herald newspaper.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) can also request any investigating agency to register a case against anyone under Section 66 (2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
