Addressing the 19th Southeast Asia Summit in La Os, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the forces of faith in humanity to unite against terrorism.
“I come from the land of Buddha,” he said, adding that the world has started looking at India closely. He added that peace, security and stability in the South China Sea is in the interest of the entire Indo-Pacific region. We want maritime operations to comply with UN Charters of the Law of the Sea.
Also, ensuring maritime trade and overflight trade is essential. This requires the development of strong effective codes of conduct. Also, restrictions should not be imposed on the foreign policies of regional countries. South Asia is one of the most negatively affected countries in the world from the ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world, and all have expressed their desire to restore peace and stability in Eurasia and the Middle East as soon as possible.
I have said many times that this is not the century of war. Problems cannot be solved on the battlefield. Respect for sovereignty, territorial unity, integrity and international law is essential. We must place strong emphasis on dialogue and diplomatic training from a humanitarian perspective.
India will continue to make every effort in this direction to contribute in fulfilling its responsibilities as Vishwa Bandhu. Terrorism poses a major challenge to global peace and security. Forces that believe in humanity must work together to fight it and I assure India’s full support for successful leadership. This is what Modi said at the conference.
